FAQs

How do I take care of my cutting board?

Taking care of your cutting board is very easy. After using it, simply hand wash your cutting board with hot soapy water, wipe any excess water off with a towel, and allow it to fully dry before putting it away. Never put your cutting board into a dishwasher, as that will cause serious harm to it.

With every order, we will ship a small tin filled with our homemade mineral oil/beeswax mix. At least annually, but more often with heavy use or if the board starts to look dry, take a small amount of the mix and rub it into the board, then let it dry for an hour or two. Once it is dry, wipe any excess off with a clean cloth. It is now re-sealed and ready for use again.

How is my cutting board finished?

Once each cutting board is glued together using waterproof glue, we run it through a surface planer to ensure that both the top and bottom are even and parallel to each other. We then sand it smooth, apply mineral oil directly to the board, and set it out to dry for several hours. After 2-3 applications of mineral oil, we then apply our mineral oil/beeswax mix to finish sealing the wood.

We use only food-grade mineral oil and beeswax, which are odorless and tasteless, ensuring that each cutting board we produce is 100% food safe.

Can I cut raw meat on my cutting board?

Absolutely! We have heard some people claim that it is unsanitary to cut raw meat on a wooden board. However, as long as you wash your board after each use with hot soapy water, it is perfectly safe to cut raw meat on your wooden cutting board. If you would like a little extra protection, you can also spray your board with a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water. Just be sure to let the bleach solution dry thoroughly before using your cutting board again.

I noticed knots and other blemishes on the wood, are those safe?

Absolutely. The mineral oil and beeswax that we apply to the cutting board prevents germs and bacteria from penetrating down into the wood. If there are any knots or holes in the wood, we will fill those with epoxy prior to applying the finish to make sure your board is as safe as possible.
